Euromillions for UK lottery winner
Britain’s biggest ever lottery prize was won by a UK ticket holder, winning a massive £56m.
Neither Nigel Page nor his partner, Justine Laycock, needed to look at the piece of paper they were holding up for the cameras. They both knew what it said: “Fifty-six million, eight thousand, one hundred and thirteen pounds and twenty pence.”
The only extraordinary thing about Page and Laycock as they emerged from anonymity to meet the press, sip reasonably priced bubbly and pose before the obligatory red Ferrari was how extraordinarily ordinary they seemed.
Last night’s Euromillions win surpassed the £91m paid out in November last year, which was shared between two UK tickets.
The winning ticket shares the overall jackpot of £113m with another bought in Spain.
A National Lottery spokesman said: “This is fantastic news – we’re absolutely delighted to have such a massive UK win, which shared [last night's] mega jackpot with a player in Spain.
“This is the biggest win since Les and Sam Scadding and the Magnificent Seven syndicate each won £45.5m in November 2009.
“Subject to validation the prize could be paid out when the banks are open on Monday.”
The lucky numbers are 05, 45, 01, 38 and 18. The Lucky Star numbers are 6 and 4. Another UK millionaire won the Raffle Selection, matching ZHR 111871.
